Residency and INternship Benefits

Residents and interns receive personal studio space and glass studio access. Tools (blow pipes, hand tools, cold shop equipment, etc.) and blowing glass are provided. Resident artists are given approximately 16 hours per week of personal hot shop time. Interns receive approximately 10 hours per week of personal hot stop time to use outside of work hours (Monday - Friday, 8am - 4pm).

Starworks offers subsidized housing that can be rented by residents and interns for $250/month per person. Utilities are included in rent. Starworks housing is shared co-ed, pet free and smoke free. Internet is not available in the housing, however interns and residents will have 24-hour access to the glass studio, which does offer wifi. House is fully furnished, including basic kitchen supplies.

All interns will receive a stipend of $800 per month. Residents can apply for a stipend. Please be sure to submit the Financial Assistance form along with your application materials if you wish to apply.

Artists in Residence & Interns are invited to place their work in our gallery - Artists receive 60% of the sale price with Starworks only taking 40% for commission.

Resident artists, interns, and visiting artists have the opportunity to teach workshops in their fields. Workshop instructors receive 40% of the revenue generated from participant fees. Workshops must be arranged with residency coordinator
THINGS TO DO IN THE AREA
Seagrove Pottery Area is minutes away and is home to more than 100 potters, producing everything from utilitarian, functional pieces to high-end decorative art. Along with the usual gas and electric firings, there are over thirty wood kilns in use in the immediate area. The North Carolina Pottery Center, located in the village of Seagrove, has exhibits that illustrate the history and progression of pottery in the state
North Carolina Zoological Park, located just 18 miles from STARworks, is one of the finest open-habitat zoological parks in the world.
Uwharrie Mountains & Lakes provide ample opportunities for recreational fun, including hiking the 25-mile Uwharrie Trail, horseback riding along more than 100 miles of scenic trails, off-roading, river and flat-water paddling, camping, backpacking, hunting, cycling, moutain biking, swimming, gold panning, birding and fishing.
