Live music by Maria Fairchild in the STARworks Café & Taproom. No admission fee, but tips for the performers are greatly appreciated. All ages welcome! Feel free to bring in takeout or have pizza delivered.
American roots musician and singer Maria Fairchild started playing clawhammer banjo in her teens, after being mesmerized by its driving rhythm. Since then, her banjo and guitar have taken her to the Pacific Northwest, British Columbia, England, and most recently to North Carolina, where she has won several ribbons for banjo and vocals at festivals. A dedicated “singer-songfinder,” Maria makes traditional music relevant to audiences, and performs new songs as well, including a few originals. She also plays piano and banjo for contradances from Wilmington to Asheville and is an experienced contra and square dance caller. Maria is a member of the Piedmont Hill Toppers along with Jim Watson, Al McCanless, Jon Newlin, and Ted Ehrhard. Ted and Al will join her at StarWORKS.
