Artist Talks

Ceramic artists Chris Salas and Jeanine Hill, and Glass artist Jaime Guerrero will present slides and discuss themes of their work, inspiration, projects and processes.

Artist talks are free and open to all ages. Following the talks, Starworks Café & Taproom is open until 9pm. Coffees, smoothies, beer, wine, snacks and sandwiches are available for purchase in the cafe.


Chris Salas

Chris Salas is a Ceramics artist and educator living in Southeast, Michigan. They graduated from Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI with a B.A. in Chemistry. Chris began working with ceramics in Tucson, AZ through local community ceramics studios and continued their education through workshops at Penland in North Carolina and Arrowmont in Tennessee. Chris completed the Minnesota New Institute for Ceramics Education (MN NICE) program at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis, MN. Chris has completed a residency at Ceramics School in Hamtramck, MI and will be attending a residency at Watershed this summer in Maine. They are currently pursuing an MFA in Ceramics at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, MI and will graduate in the spring of 2023.


Jeanine Hill

Jeanine Hill is a maker whose work seeks to tell stories through the utilization of clay, fiber, wood and a sundry of other materials. The works that she creates often shift from two to three dimensions, taking on the forms of maps, quilts, and visual landscapes.

Jeanine has exhibited work extensively both nationally and internationally in such venues as Katara Art Center in Doha, Qatar; Guldagergaar International Ceramics Research Center; The New Gallery in Little Rock, AR; The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, PA; The Harry M. Drake Gallery in St. Paul, MN; The Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis, MN; The Crane Gallery in Philadelphia, PA and Towson University Gallery in Baltimore, MD. Jeanine has attended residencies at Guldagergaar International Ceramics Research Center, the Vermont Studio Center, and the Hambidge Center-Creative Arts. Jeanine is an Assistant Professor of Intermedia at Elon University.


Jaime Guerrero

Jaime Guerrero is an award-winning glass artist and sculptor. Born in Los Angeles, California, he began his career at California College of Arts and Crafts in 1994. Guerrero has studied with Masters Checco Ongaro, Pino Signoretto, and Ben Moore. He attended Pilchuck School of Glass, was nominated for the Corning Award and has won the Saxe Fellowship aware twice. Guerrero was a featured artist on the episode “Neighbors” of the PBS Series Craft in America. Although Guerrero mostly focuses on glass sculpture, he considers himself a mixed-media artist, whose work embraces the notion that art can influence social change. During his residency at Starworks Glass, Guerrero is exploring new techniques and combining his glass blowing skills with themes found in religion, ritual and tree worship. His culminating project is constructing a large-scale, glass tree sculpture for an upcoming, interactive installation.
