Raku Workshop

February 11, 1pm

Raku is an ancient process of removing wares from a kiln at peak temperatures and allowing them to cool rapidly. In this workshop you will learn a brief history of the Raku process, the differences between oxidation, reduction, and post-fire reduction, as well as the effects certain materials and oxides have on the finished pottery.

You will receive 1 ceramic pot that has been premade and bisque fired, glazing options, and hands on kiln firing instructions.

*Due to the low temperature of the Raku firing process, the finished pottery will remain porous. Therefore, all pots from this workshop will be strictly decorative. They will NOT be food safe or hold water.

*All participants are required to wear closed-toe shoes and natural fiber clothing.

All ages welcome: children under 12 need to be accompanied by an adult. This class is recommended for beginners to learn the fundamentals of raku firing.

Your work will be fired and available for pickup at the end of the workshop.

Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your session to check in. Class will be held in the Starworks Clay Studio.
