Spooky Sgraffito
Ceramic Hand-Building Workshop

Learn the fundamentals of sgraffito in this 2 hour introductory ceramic workshop at Starworks Clay Studio!
Sgraffito is a versatile technique which involves painting semi-soft clay and carving out a unique design. The instructor will teach students how to create and carve spooky clay platters which will be fired and ready in time for Halloween.
Students will be provided 5lbs of wild NC clay made in the Starworks clay factory, all necessary tools, five underglaze options, a live demonstration, and hands-on direction from an artist instructor.
This introductory ceramic workshop is great for beginners of all ages. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a guardian.
Student work will be dried, fired, and glazed for you after the workshop. Finished trays will be available for pick-up approximately 2 weeks after the workshop. Items can be picked up in the School House Gallery during regular business hours, Monday - Saturday, 9am - 5pm. Shipping is available for an additional charge. Please inform your instructor if you need your mug shipped.
Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your session to check in. Class will be held in the Starworks Clay Studio.

About the Instructor: Ariana Stein is an intern resident artist at Starworks. She earned a double degree in Ceramics and Music Performance from the University of Kansas in 2022. Ariana’s work is influenced by Eastern European folk pottery. Having grown up between Budapest, Hungary and St. Louis, MO, she strives to maintain her Hungarian-American identity through functional ceramics. She draws inspiration from traditional Magyar brushwork, slip trailing and sgraffito, adding her own contemporary twist.

Cancellations must be made at least 7 days prior to class date. Cancellations made after that date will not be refunded.
