Make your own wall pocket

Learn the fundamentals of hand-building as you create a ceramic wall pocket, using Starworks Wild NC Clay!
Form wall pockets by attaching cut pieces of slabbed clay. Explore different shapes and textures to add to the surface design by pressing in lace, stamps, plants, bark, leaves, and other found objects while thinking about positive/negative space. Customize your piece! Participants are welcome to bring in their own items (small objects with texture or patterns) to press into the clay.
Live demonstration and hands-on direction from experienced instructor, Willow Stevenson, Clay Intern and Ceramics Artist at Starworks. She earned her degree in Art and Environmental Studies at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. After graduation, she completed a residency at Access Arts in Columbia MO, and gained experience teaching all levels of ceramics classes. Willow loves working at the intersection of art and the environment. as well as integrating multiple mediums.
Students will be provided 5lbs of Starworks Wild NC Clay, made right here in our own factory, in addition to all necessary tools, three glaze options and kiln firing.
This introductory ceramic workshop is great for beginners of all ages. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a guardian.
Student work will need to air dry, be bisque fired, then glaze fired. Finished wall pockets will be available for pick-up in approximately 4 weeks. Items can be picked up in the School House Gallery during regular business hours, Monday - Saturday, 9am - 5pm. Shipping is available for an additional charge. Please inform your instructor if you need your item shipped.
Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your session to check in. Class will be held in the Starworks Clay Studio.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Due to the popularity of our Make Your Own series, cancellations must be made at least 7 days prior to class date. Cancellations made after that date will not be refunded.
