Artist Talks at Starworks are free and open to the public. Guests are invited to meet the artists, watch and learn as they present slides and discuss their process and influence, and ask questions about their works.

Any Guelmann
Starworks Ceramics Resident Artist
Born in Curitiba, Brazil, Any trained as an architect and urban planner before immigrating to the United States in 2007. She spent a decade in New York, where she studied metalsmithing, documentary photography, and ceramics while working at Etsy, Inc., eventually becoming the company's first Senior Maker Specialist. Throughout her life, she has explored a wide range of crafts, from mainstream Western materials like glass and fiber to culture-specific traditions such as kintsukuroi and fileteado porteño. This diverse skill set informs her artistic practice and daily studio work. In 2017, Any left her corporate role to pursue ceramics full-time, with a focus on wood firing. She currently resides in Seattle.
David Kwak
Starworks Ceramics Intern
Born in Seoul, South Korea, David Kwak moved to the United States in 2006. He grew up in Dallas, Texas, and Portland, Oregon, before being accepted to Alfred University's BFA program in 2017. Between 2019 and 2021, he lived in Icheon, South Korea, as a production studio assistant and in Gangjin, where he learned the history, aesthetics, and techniques of celadon. After returning to Alfred, he completed his BFA in the spring of 2023. Currently, David is an Artist-in-Residence at the Saratoga Clay Arts Center. His work primarily focuses on creating landscapes on wheel-thrown vessels, blending different aesthetics drawn from his experiences living in diverse cultures.
