Ring in Spring! Pressing Botanicals on Slab Built Ceramics
In this hands on workshop, learn how to press flowers, leaves, pods or other natural elements into a slab-built mug to create a one-of a kind art piece that celebrates spring! Students will learn the fundamentals of slab building and may decorate their pressed designs with colorful underglazes.
This 2 hour introductory ceramic workshop at Starworks Clay Studio is ideal for beginners, but all skill levels are welcome!
Students will be provided 5lbs of wild NC clay made in the Starworks clay factory, all necessary tools, six underglaze options, various botanicals for stamping in clay, a live demonstration, and hands-on direction from an artist instructor.
Student work will be dried, fired, and glazed for you after the workshop. Finished mugs will be available for pick-up approximately 4 weeks after the workshop. Items can be picked up in the School House Gallery during regular business hours, Monday - Saturday, 9am - 5pm. Shipping is available for an additional charge. Please inform your instructor if you need your mug shipped.
Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your session to check in. Class will be held in the Starworks Clay Studio.
Instruction and hands on assistance will be provided by artist and ceramics intern Ariana Stein.
Ariana earned a double degree in Ceramics and Music Performance from the University of Kansas in 2022. She draws inspiration from traditional Magyar brushwork, slip trailing and sgraffito, adding her own contemporary twist.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Due to the popularity of our Make Your Own series, cancellations must be made at least 7 days prior to class date. Cancellations made after that date will not be refunded.
